![]() )Ī search of the DUC will reveal just about every combination possible over the past 10 years. ![]() If they're gonna continue giving us stuff like this (), putting everyone at risk, I'd rather have someone else do the coding. Stick to the recording guys and let digi do the coding  Again, REAPER is being used as an additional tool to give PT features that it will probably never have and thus a solution to a problem.Ī real pro will use whatever it takes to get the job done. Because of REAPER's ability to adjust it's input recording latency offset to negative values(PT HD cant even do this), he can literally track in repro mode on his MM1200 24trk with 100% accurate time stamping as it gets recorded in REAPER. Let's look at what someone like can do with his REAPER and Digidesign 192 I/O rig along with his 2" Ampex MM1200 24trk. There are a ton of HD Mac users who use Logic, Digital Performer, Ableton, FL Studio, Bidule and Vienna Ensemble Pro in the very same manor and even post their work flows on the DUC. The reality of it all is Pro Tools does not offer this and probably never will. This is extremely productive and keeps me in the creative work flow. I can then easily drag my MIDI tracks from PT to REAPER, do an offline render then drag the audio back into PT and start mixing. I simply make the VI inactive then active again and keep working in PT. If one VI was to ever crash, it wont bring down PT or REAPER. This gives me major stability unlike anything out there. In this way, every single VI runs as a completely separate application in one host and can access as much RAM as they need on their own. Using REAPER to host my VI's, I can have every single plug-in run as a completely separate process outside of Pro Tools. Let's face it, RTAS sucks right now, especially when it comes to tons of VI's and low latency on very large sessions. How do I incorporate it into my PT work flow? For me, it's a host for my VI's that get ReWired straight into PT. ![]() What's wrong with using more than one tool to get the job done? Especially tools that one DAW alone cant offer. Those who use both use REAPER for a small handful of tools in their work flow that Pro Tools cant do on it's own. ![]() ![]() Most here have stated they use both. Im actually surprised with some of the pro people here talking so much s**t about a piece of software thats not used in any pro studio that I know of and I know a lot.Get serious lads,Protools is ther or there abouts with a few short comings that can be overcome if you know how to use the god damn thing. This is akin to telling people to only use Digidesign/AIR plug-ins and to not bother with 3rd party plug-ins to get the job done. If Reaper is so fantastic why are you still posting here. Reaper,It looks like something calewalk had out 20 years ago and it also had adc.Even garageband looks better, need I say (). I know a lot of DUCers are running Reaper, but I wanted to get a better idea of just how many people have switched or are packing their things slowly. I'm just curious how many PT users have either.Ĭ)installed Reaper as a backup plan in case PT goes south ![]()

![]() It touched a nerve, and soon Instagram accounts appeared that were dedicated to shaming tourists, and calling attention to crowds and un-cool behavior of multi-resort pass-holders. Pretty soon mockery emerged, such as locals referring to the tourists as the IKON't Ski crowd. Now tourists from out of state often flocked to the resort with the best snow, increasing the crowds and reducing the fresh turns that the locals of that mountain used to enjoy. Having a season pass was something of an indication that you were a committed supporter of your local mountain, not a simple tourist or casual participant. With this has come some back-lash from some of the locals and hard-core skiers and snowboarders who previously were a fairly exclusive group of enthusiasts. The speed of IKON Pass adoption has been equally stunning. In its wake, another large ski resort conglomerate, Alterra, introduced a similar pass for their resorts called the IKON Pass. With the Epic Passes, tourists and families from cities like Atlanta and Houston could now justify a season pass, because they knew that if they were at least going to take one or two ski trips a year, they could pick up an Epic Pass and then watch to see which of Vail's resorts got the great snow that year, then plan their trip accordingly.Īdoption of the Epic Pass was swift, and in the years since its introduction Vail Resorts' market cap ($MTN) more than quadrupled. Previously, season pass customers were largely locals with enough time to ski their nearby resort extensively during the season. It also increased the TAM (total addressable market) for season passes. This move shifted what had been a fairly unpredictable and seasonal revenue into a stable recurring revenue model. This created an incentive for those who typically would plan a ski vacation or two per year to simply buy a season pass, because the season passes ended up being cheaper than simply purchasing day passes during their vacation time. Concurrent with this move, he lowered the price of the annual pass and raised the price of individual day passes at the resorts. ![]() Because Vail Resorts owns popular ski areas across the United States, Europe, and elsewhere, this meant that pass-holders could watch storm-cycles to decide where to ski and when. ![]() In 2008, two years after becoming CEO of Vail Resorts, Robert Katz introduced a single season pass that was valid at all Vail Resorts ski areas, and called it the Epic Pass. ![]() ![]() If enabled in web settings, captions can only be enabled by the host. Let's dig into the details. It's also possible to route HDMI 2.0 over Thunderbolt 3 with the right hardware.įor newer displays, it's best to go with DisplayPort or HDMI. Thunderbolt 2 supports DisplayPort 1.2, and Thunderbolt 3 supports DisplayPort 1.4 video. If you're wondering about Thunderbolt 2/3, it basically just routes DisplayPort over the Thunderbolt connection. But the truly modern graphics cards like Nvidia's Ada Lovelace RTX 40-series and AMD's RDNA 3 RX 7000-series almost never include DVI connectors these days. Dual-link DVI-D is basically double the bandwidth of single-link DVI-D via extra pins and wires, and most modern GPUs with a DVI port support dual-link. It works fine for gaming at 1080p, or 1440p resolution if you have a dual-link connection. It has a lot in common with early HDMI, just without audio support. Yuck.ĭVI is the bare minimum you want to use today, and even that has limitations. They're old, meaning, any new GPU likely won't even support the connector, and even if they did, you'd be using an analog signal that's prone to interference. You don't want to use VGA or any of those others in the 2020s, though. Both are digital standards, meaning all the data about the pixels on your screen is represented as 0s and 1s as it zips across your cable, and it's up to the display to convert that digital information into an image on your screen.Įarlier digital monitors used DVI (Digital Visual Interface) connectors, and going back even further we had analog VGA (Video Graphics Array) - along with component RGB, S-Video, composite video, EGA and CGA. DisplayPort first appeared in 2006, while HDMI came out in 2002. The latest display connectivity standards are DisplayPort and HDMI ( High-Definition Multimedia Interface). Our GPU Benchmarks hierarchy will tell you how the various graphics cards rank in terms of performance, but it doesn't dig into the connectivity options, which is something we'll cover here.įrom left to right: Composite, VGA, DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort. ![]() If you're looking to buy a new PC monitor or buy a new graphics card, you'll want to consider the capabilities of both sides of the connection - the video output of your graphics card and the video input on your display - before making any purchases. ![]() Here's what you need to know about DisplayPort vs. You might think it's a simple matter of hooking up whatever cable comes with your monitor to your PC and calling it a day, but there are differences that can often mean a loss of refresh rate, color quality, or both if you're not careful.
